1. It is acknowledged that Latin American countries have had for a long time a reputation of being hostile towards international arbitration. The enactment of modern arbitration laws and the ratification of the conventions on international commercial arbitration has been essential to dilute the contents of this sad reputation and has helped Latin American countries to meet the standards imposed by global economy1.
